Lordsburg is conveniently situated on Interstate 10, mid-way between El Paso, Texas and Tucson, Arizona. We are the county seat of Hidalgo County. Lordsburg, with a population of approximately 3,000 is the largest town in Hidalgo County. We offer a medical and dental clinic, library, museum, a grocery store, appliance stores, hardware and lumber stores and two new/used car dealerships. Lordsburg has one of the last family owned banks, three RV parks, office supply store, computer and internet service, comfortable and modern motels. Good restaurants and several fast food establishments. We also have flower, gift, novelty and rock shops. A New Mexico Visitors Information Center is located at exit 20 on Interstate 10 on the west side of Lordsburg. Hidalgo County has beautiful desert scenery, changing seasons, a mild climate, small communities and many talented artisans and crafts people. You will want to visit Rodeo's art galleries and enjoy a great meal at the Rodeo Tavern. There is an RV park in the Rodeo area that offers small cottages and rooms to rent. Near by Animas has a chile processing plant, fish hatchery, a wolf and wildlife preserve called Wolfsong Ranch and several small shops and cafes. We are a county with a rich multi-cultural heritage that includes Hispanic, Native American and "Old West". Our guests always enjoy visiting Shakespeare Ghost Town, Steins Railroad Ghost Town, and the Hidalgo County Museum. Our festivals include a Cowboy Poetry Festival, Ghost Town Re-enactments, the 4th of July festivities, Tejano Festival, and our Christmas Light Parade and Moonlight Madness Sale. Our terrain is perfect for bird watching, wildlife encounter, rock hounding and exploring. We have a wild buffalo herd, original descendents of the buffalo that once grazed through the western states. Be sure that you are well supplied with water before venturing out to look for Doubtful Canyon or touring Skeleton Canyon, or the site of Geronimo's surrender. Walk the streets where Billy the Kid, the Clantons, Johnny Ringo and many other colorful badland gang outlaws once trod. Please contact the chamber for more information about our festivals or other information you may need. We look forward to welcoming you to our community.
